Charles Codère

A member of the Quebec Bar since 2016, Charles Codère holds a PhD in law, with a focus on innovation, science, and technology, from the University of Montreal, a master’s degree in public international law from the University of Oslo, and a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Montreal. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the NEME Chair at Laval University between 2023 and 2025.

Charles’ expertise lies in environmental law, particularly climate change law, as well as the regulation of the environmental impact of private actors in a context of multilevel governance. His doctoral thesis focused on the legal issues related to climate technology transfer in the wake of the adoption of the Paris Climate Agreement. His postdoctoral research project then examined the implementation of corporate climate disclosure rules and their interaction with international public law standards and mechanisms. Since 2025, Charles has been working as a lawyer at the CQDE, where he leads work on greenwashing and sustainable finance.
