Thanks to your unwavering support and donations, we&#8217;ve made major advances in environmental justice. Here are the highlights of our year:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12737\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/northvolt_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Northvolt has been a major source of motivation for our team this year, and for good reason, since it touches on issues of transparency, public participation, and the protection of biodiversity and the environment. Our watchdog role paid off, as it served to alert and mobilize decision-makers, the media, and public opinion regarding the risks of bypassing our environmental processes, and the importance of respecting the rule of law and democratic processes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12738\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/mifn_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In collaboration with Ecojustice, we represented the Mitchikanibikok Inik community in a challenge to the Mining Act. The Qu\u00e9bec Superior Court ruled that the provincial government had for decades failed in its duty to consult the community before issuing mining claims for exploration in its territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This ruling marks a turning point, requiring the community to be consulted and accommodated before any new claims are made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12739\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/access_information_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access to information is essential for informed civic engagement. This year, we won two major cases:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horne Smelter: Citizen wins case for access to crucial input data.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protecting Fairview Forest: A citizen has managed to negotiate the removal of some of the redaction on documents related to a controversial commercial and residential development project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12740\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/greenwashing_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greenwashing is a growing practice that affects our entire society. We\u2019ve taken many and varied actions in an attempt to curb the phenomenon:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal policy: Our recommendations have played an active role in <\/span><b>the adoption of stricter rules <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">governing corporate environmental declarations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">General public: We have supported the public with a webinar and a practical guide designed to <\/span><b>make it easier to report cases of greenwashing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These initiatives have already borne fruit, with a number of private citizens and groups informing us of the filing of greenwashing complaints.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial sector: We published <\/span><b>a research report on financial greenwashing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including 26 recommendations to improve the credibility and transparency of environmental declarations in this sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12741\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/legislation_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our parliamentary committee interventions have contributed to<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Strengthening conservation of natural environments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through amendments to Bill 39 that facilitate municipal action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Enabling the public to find out how much water is used by companies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: a victory achieved in partnership with Eau Secours.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Supporting the decarbonization of <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">buildings through our recommendations concerning Bill 41.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12736\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/awareness_banner_impact.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12732\" src=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/numers_our_impact_2024_cqde.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>To find out more about these achievements and much more, <a href=\"https:\/\/cqde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Rapport-Annuel_23-24_final.pdf\">read our annual report<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>These achievements are also yours.
