Montréal, March 28, 2025- The Centre québécois du droit de l’environnement (CQDE) strongly condemns the use of a gag order, a motion for exceptional legislative procedure, in the context of the debates in the National Assembly concerning Bill 93: An Act respecting, in particular, the transfer of ownership of an immovable of Ville de Blainville.

During the special consultations, the CQDE, along with several other organizations, decried the circumvention of environmental and municipal standards as well as the government’s intention to prevent legal challenges.

“Bill 93, which benefits only one private company and has no reasonable justification, already represents a significant step backwards for democracy. Today, the government is going even further by resorting to a gag order to get this special law passed,” asserts Geneviève Paul, Executive Director of the CQDE.

The CQDE strongly opposes the proposed legislation and calls on the government to withdraw it.
